Hot off the press - Another McCalls 2401

Here is my latest McCalls 2401.

This is the V-Neck version and I am happy with it.

I finished pressing it last night and wore it to work today. I trained in the beautiful and prestigious Art Deco hotel -  The Grace - in the Sydney CBD today and I felt good enough in this Made By Me dress to wear to The Grace. (Cardi is RTW).

Excuse the grumpy face - I was tired.

Here is the dress sans cardi. I always wear something over my arms in public.

I don't think the flash went off in the above - had to lighten it considerably. Excuse ugly bruise on leg - I dropped the vacuum cleaner on myself  ... that's what happens when you try to clean!

I love this fabric - it is a tribal print - quite thick knit (but not as thick as the last brown dress) from Sawyer Brooks. It was originally going to be a Pamela's Pattern's T-Shirt but I had enough for a dress and Voila - here it is. Sad thing is - the fabric looks like it is going to pill easily - damn!

Here is a close up of neck line:

Happy with results. Next one will have sleeves. Not much more to add.

This is my next item for the Sew Your Own Wardrobe for a Year Challenge

Please indulge me while I will leave you with a few gratuitous pictures of "The Grace". She is beautiful and I love going there.

  1. Beautiful venue!

The V-neck is great, and you've done such a neat job of binding it (I'm bad at binding, so always take note of other people's achievements).

I like the way the print looks on this style, and the cardigan goes well with it.

  2. Great hotel, very classy!
Your dress looks great, its such a pity when the fabric starts to pill so early after all the work you've put into it. The neckline looks really good too.

  6. The dress is very smart and just right for an art deco building - the fabric fits the era nicely - did you plan that :-). And the drape cardigan is elegant and slimming. You look very smart, and I'm glad you enjoyed the venue. It's hard not to look grumpy with self timers I find :-)

  8. Well, if the fabric looks like it's going to pill, wear it a lot.
You fit in nicely with the deco at the Grace.

  10. Well done BeaJay... now that you've got your TNT pattern you'll be able to pump out new dresses for yourself in a flash. I'm loving this dress on you and the fit and the length looks perfect on you. I'm loving the V neck and I think they tend to add a great visual element and are really flattering. What a great hotel you got to work in... really beautiful!

  19. I love the print on this! Its too bad about the pilling. I really hate it when I love a fabric and it doesn't wash well. I agree- cleaning is a dangerous activity best to be avoided!

  20. Wow! what a beautiful venue! Your dress is terrific, I love the geometric print, and it works really will the the black cardi picking up that interesting black motif.

  23. Oh BeeJay! You are making great progress with this pattern. I love this make. The print does NOT scream "insert credit card here" too funny! The neckline is perfect and I *like* this shorter length on you. Are you feeling more comfortable in it? And the Grace - beautiful. g
