Blogiversary

Well tomorrow (17th in AUS time) is my second year anniversary for blogging (and a little more time sewing) and I have absolutely loved making world wide friends and especially IRL friends through this little blog.

So - how am I going to celebrate this marvelous milestone.

Well with a gift of course.

Now there are few things in life that gets my goolies - I don't know if this phrase is used outside of OZ but it means gets me riled. I am pretty laid back and happy to let most things flow over me.

Funny - I am more likely to sweat the small stuff than the big. The big stuff - well - you can't really change it and so therefore way out of the circle of influence so I let it go. The small stuff can niggle.

One of the things that really gets my goolies is all the great offers out there "FOR NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY" Banks offer great deals for new customers. Foxtel (cable TV) again - for new customers only etc. Now being a business owner I can understand the need to attract new customers but - hey what about the loyal customers that have been bringing business your way for years... What about me....

Another thing about me is that

 Why do I love StyleArc?

  1. There are not many pattern producers that go up to my size so already there is huge lot of pattern alterations just to get it to my size let alone individual alterations
  2. The customer service is phenomenal
  3. The styles are current and up to date and you can get ANY of their patterns in your size (up to 30) not ones that look like tents
  4. There is one size per pattern. Now I know that this is a bone of contention for a lot of people but if there are more than one size I find that I trace the pattern (more work) just in case, where if there is only one size I cut it straight out.
  5. Can I repeat that THEY GO UP TO SIZE 30 FOR EVERY PATTERN
  6. They give a free pattern every month with your order

So.... adding my love of StyleArc to my love of my love of blogging and my appreciation for those who read and comment on my blog I am going to give a

to one of the people who comment on my blog. I have calculated that you SHOULD (no responsibility) get one regular pattern plus the month's freebie sent to most places for the $25. If you put it into your cart but not purchase it will tell you the cost. If not - then it should at least cover most anyway.

Now I appreciate all of you who read my blog and *hopefully* enjoy it - and believe me - I lurk on many a blog. However this is for all of those who have IN THE PAST have taken the time and the love and commented on my blog. Yes - this is where the "current customers" rant from earlier comes in to it.

To be in the running all you have to do is have posted a comment on this blog prior to this post date.

This is NOT open to people who comment on this post (although all comments are welcome and who knows what will happen on my 3rd blogiversary).

This is open to all comments prior to this post and every comment will be entered so the more you have commented then the more chance you have of winning.

I will do the massive job of printing out all comments, cutting them up and drawing as soon as I have the time so stay tuned.....

Love and appreciate you all.

  1. Congratulations on your blogiversary, BeaJay! I love reading your adventures, particularly with Style Arc, as I am a plus size sewist also, and I can appreciate how difficult it can be to get current styles in our sizes.

  6. I agree, rewarding your regulars is good, dare I say, bonza!

I keep looking at style arc patterns but haven't yet taken the plunge. Single size patterns are a tad daunting. Your blog & the Clothing Engineer's (& Thornberry's) are helping to convince me to have a go. Wonderful blogs, each of them.

  10. Congratulations on your 2nd Blogoversary! I've long admired your personal style and outlook, although I think I've only commented here once or twice. I've never tried a Stylearc pattern- maybe because it's hard to choose?

  17. Love and appreciation right back at ya! I love Style Arc too, and even the international postage doesn't put me off ordering from them because the patterns are so well drafted and the free pattern is nearly always something I can use.

  20. My ears perked up when you talked about the size range. I have a large, low bustline. Do you know if the plus size patterns are cut for a B or C or ? cup? TIA Judi

    1. Oh - I don't know Judith. I tend to buy according to my high bust measurement and then add the remaining inches to the side seams and sleeves as a cheating FBA. I do this for the knits and would do a normal FBA for wovens or complicated patterns. This is because my bust is so much bigger. I also do need to lower the bust line about an inch or so which is what I need to do for any pattern line. The great thing about SA is that it is only these small adjustments I need to do instead of adding seven or eight inches just to start the adjustments.

If you email them they will give you good guidance. I do know they have been very busy of late so the answer may not be as quick as normal.

    2. Hi Judith
I wear a 16E bra and I buy for my neck and shoulders (size 16 in Style Arc) then grade out from the armpits down - I need to grade significantly on the hips and waist anyway. That's pretty much all I've done for Style Arc knits in the way of an FBA, but I'm short so you may need to add length. If your bust is larger and lower you might need to do a proper FBA and move the bust point, but in styles without darts it's probably not a big deal. When I get around to a woven shirt I'll move the dart to where it is actually needed.

You could ask Chloe at Style Arc but I'd say they draft for at least a C in the larger sizes. It basically fits like RTW, and the other plus is the measurements are for real - if the stated hip size is 100cm, and I am 110cm (I wish, but hey), I add 10 cm overall at the hips and it comes out looking like the picture. IMO this should apply to all patterns but it doesn't. There's none of that weird stuff where you choose your size by the measurements then just pick a random size a bit smaller than that and mess around with multiple muslins.

  26. My friend who has been a long term customer of Foxtel phoned them up last year to complain about the good deals they were offering to new customers and threatened to cancel his contract so they gave him a good deal too! And even funnier they gave him an even better deal this year when he again threatened to cancel. But I'm glad you're looking after your current customers - my pet hate are those people that trawl the web looking for freebies

  28. In the hectic mad crafting rush up to the holiday, I missed this. This same thing gets me too. What a lovely thing you did and congratulations on 2 years of blogging! g

  29. congratulations on two years of blogging. Wow. The PPP sounds like so much fun. I think I am only a halfway plus size. LOL. My hips are 8.5 inches bigger than my bust. So I am regular on the top and a plus on the bottom. A lot of times I have to buy two patterns because I cross that pattern division line!
