Big hugs

Thank you all so much for your loving warm comments on my last post. It wasn't my intention to sound so upset - I really do feel that I want to evolve in my sewing and the comment that started my post made me realise it.

I am very happy with my pull on Barbs (and am in the midst of making some more pull on ponte pants from a different pattern) and I do love my Creative Cates and will be making more of those too.

But I do want to step it up a bit and as a business and management trainer I could use some tailored jackets and non knit dresses.

It has been a hell of a month (or so) and I guess that is why the comment hit me too.

- I started off really sick - better now - but lost a lot of time

- Next I lost my iPhone and had to replace - hadn't backed it up for some time too so am missing a lot of numbers.

- Then my computer (with all of my business stuff on it) started to sizzle so I had to buy a new computer and I haven't moved all of my stuff over so I am working between 2 computers.

- My credit card was hacked and someone purchased thousands of dollars worth of stuff which luckily my bank is reversing - however had to go through all of the cancellation and redo of direct payments

- My PVR corrupted a 1 terabyte portable drive I have so now it can't be used on my computer - or anywhere for that matter.

- Yesterday I was so pleased to be having a day sewing with my sewing buddies at Tessutis - got up early to finish cutting some patterns to sew. Packed my car with my machines and drove into Surry Hills only to find that I had the dates mixed up (Tessutis is next Saturday) and I should have been all the way across town at the Sewing Guild Industry Day  - which I was looking forward to attending (using a new computer without my calendar updated obviously tested my memory which failed.) By the time I got home from Tessutis it wasn't worth going out to the industry day.

- Last night my new computer contracted a virus that was attacking it every second and I have spent 4 hours this morning "cleansing" it...

Phew - not looking for sympathy - just saying the warm comments actually bought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful community the sewing community is. In the scheme of things the above is nothing but a hassle and there are so many people actually suffering out there that I realise how lucky I am.

Reading through the comments I have made a decision on my challenge - yes I really do want to challenge myself.

A lovely dress (using my best fabric) with an invisible zip and Hong Kong finishes it will be.  For the moment. I am working on a mini wardrobe so after that I will do my challenge.

I am going to save the Georgette top too. Keep tuned to find out how... I have some good ideas....no - make that great ideas :-)

In the meantime - love and hugs to all. I will always remember your kind words.

  1. Oh my goodness. I read and don't post. But, I wanted you to know, I was laughing in sympathy as I read your post, and the previous post. I am sorry that chaos has hit with a vengeance. Thank you. I just backed up my phone and computer. I love what you're doing and what you're making. Your desire to challenge yourself is admirable. Just keep going.

  3. You've clearly got a lot on your plate right now. I know that when that happens to me, I become extra sensitive with things like random remarks from strangers. Just know that you have a ton of people in your corner here, and we can't wait to see what you do next!

  4. I did wonder where you were yesterday, I dread the loss of my iPhone so thank you for the reminder to back-up. You know where we are if you need to have a coffee and chat :)

  5. Big hugs indeed, that is a month... to forget! I'm sewing several pull on pants atm too, Anita ponti's, so will be thinking of you stitching up Barbs, and I love a good Cate top too (have several of those and another planned). Everyone needs reliable TNTs and there is nothing quite like an excellent well drafted pattern to lift the spirit :)

  8. Man... That is the Chaos Vortex. What a sucky month. Tech is great 99% of the timebut when it goes wrong, it's such a time sink. I do hope it all gets sorted soon.
I hope you enjoy the Tessuti day next week! And good luck with the mini wardrobe. Can't wait to follow your dress adventure too.

  9. Big hugs from me...I know what it's like to have your CC hacked. Fortunately, I have never lost my iPhone but can just imagine the hell that would be. And the Industry Day! Bugger!

  12. I was laughing like Sue in sympathy and disbelief. I don't know why all the sh** hits the fan at the same time, but it does seem to. I've been through similar weeks and months, when you want to pull your hair out and just yell ENOUGH! Keep on keeping on with what you're doing. You have a huge support system out here, even if you wouldn't know us walking down the street.
I'm looking forward to your new adventures!

  13. Sorry to hear you've been going through such a difficult time with your technology devices. It sounds like you've got some gnomes messing with things, for sure! I hope things settle down for you now. Great idea to make a dress. I'm looking forward to seeing it!
    Hugs!

  14. What a horrible time - looks like everything seemed to be turning against you, no wonder the comment bit. A bit of wound licking time due, I think. Take care BeaJay, things will right over time.

  16. You have certainly had your share of crap thrown in your direction by the universe but now is the time to switch gears and get away from all that technology and get sewing. Allow your brain to relax with cutting out new fabrics and patterns. We all share your frustration and wish you smoother sailing from here on out...bless you.

  17. Oh, I'm so sorry you've been having a rough time lately. Hopefully that's the last of it and things will look up now.
Yes, definitely allow yourself to use and enjoy your best fabric, it'll be worth it :) *hugs)

  18. I'm a bit later in commenting than your other blog buddies. I'm guessing things have improved by now & sincerely hoping that is the case. I used the same trousers pattern for years before it fell apart. I once made up a shirt three times them wore them for almost ten years. No one guessed they were identical as the fabrics were so different. Cheers & happy sewing!

  20. Geez you sure have had a bad run... they say things happen in 3s but seems like you've had 3 lots of 3s. Fingers and pins crossed you'll now be moving onto lots of good 3s and we'll be reading all about them :) So glad you're taking up your challenge and I'm looking forward to seeing your creations. You go girl!! You can't keep a good girl down that's for sure. Sending you some big beautiful virtual hugs too xx

  21. Wow you have had a bad run but you still seem like you have a smile on your face, ( anyway that's what I imagine). Looking forward to seeing your challenging sews. Finding time to sew sometimes is enough of a challenge. I think everything has gone wrong so now everything will be up ( fingers crossed). I just realised I'm a bit late.
